God’s Love
(updated 5/16/2010)

"God's love is a radical kind of love because it transcends human limitations. "

- Fr. Desmond Orielly's homily on John 13: 34-35; May 13, 2010

God is Love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him(1 John 4:16)

Love reveals the image of God and our purpose in life. This is the heart of the Christian faith (1).

1 Corinthians 13: 4-7 is a description of love. The passage gives us an idea of the life and love that we are called to live.

“Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude.  Love is not selfish . . .  Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”

If we love God, then we become like Him . . . He who is patient, kind, unselfish, able to bear all things, and endures all things.

For God’s so loved the world that He gave us His only begotten Son.” John 3:16

The greatest expression of the Father’s love is the birth and sacrifice of Jesus Christ (1).  If we love God, then we become transformed and become like Him (1).
